I have recently been to Massachusetts and Rhode Island, on vacation, I had 2 episodes of latex allergy, after eating in restaurants, I started asking routinely if they used latex gloves, some did others didnt, but one said that even if they prepared the food without gloves, at every step of the food production/ processing before it got to the restaurant it would have been handled by latex gloves for hygiene reasons

Eva,

Thanks for your comments. Another suggested practice is to change (don) new gloves whenever touching your own body parts; i.e. scratching a little itch, touching your hair, etc.,. Bacteria travels from strange places!

Thanks for the clarification, Nancy. You are spot on! I removed the following misleading statement from the original post:

"The State Senate and House of Massachusetts amended its General Laws with a section stating that latex gloves are banned from every food service business and that any establishment not in compliance can be fined up to $100."

And, if anyone wants further information, Nancy runs a very informative website at http://www.latexallergylinks.org/ . She has a list of legislative documents relating to latex & latex allergies here: http://www.latexallergylinks.org/archives.html

You shouldn't believe all you read on the Internet. Sad to say, some people don't know the difference between a bill and a law. I've been networking about latex allergy since 1993 when my son was diagnosed. And I happen to live in Massachusetts. Massachusetts does not prohibit latex gloves in food service at the time of this writing (November, 2006).
